1950 Mercury
The 1950 Mercury is a classic American Hot Rodding car and was often customized. The Mercury formerly in the Mathews Collection is an example of Lead Sled modification which means lead filler is used to create the unusual contours. The door handles are filled in and the body shaping around the headlights has been done with lead in this manner. The subframe on the Mercury is from a later Chevrolet Camaro and the car is fitted with a GM automatic transmission.
The top has been dropped by four inches, reducing the already small window are significantly and in line with the 1950’s customization practice, all the chrome work has been removed as has the original sliced sausage grill.
