1962 Corvette
1962 marked the end of the first series Corvette. It was also the last year for several design features such as exposed headlights (until the C6 series), an external trunk (until the C4 convertibles) and straight rear axle. It was the first year for the now famed 327c.i. small block. Four engine choices were available in ’62. A base 250hp, a 300hp, a 340hp and a fuel injected 360hp.
The car in the Mathews Collection is the 360hp fuel injected version. Performance increases were noticeable with the larger displacement over the previous years 283c.i. 315hp Fuelly. Torque increased as well from 295 lb. ft. to 352lb.ft. Add that to a weight loss of 90lbs and you can guess why the ’62 Fuelly was such a desirable car for the times.
