2006 Ford GT Heritage
2006 Ford GT
Ford wanted to pay tribute to it’s 100 years of existence and built the GT40 concept which looked very similar to it’s earlier sibling the GT40 although bigger in every dimension including height. It would eventually make it into limited production in late 2004 as a 2005 model. As it exceeded the original 40 inches (hence the name GT40) a new moniker would be necessary. Several names were considered before simply dropping the “40” and naming it the “Ford GT.” The two year production run (’05 & ’06) netted 4,038 total cars. Of those, only 343 of the GT’s were made with the “Heritage” paint scheme which is taken from the Ford factory Gulf GT-40 race car that won the 1968 World Championship. Power comes from a supercharged 5.4L V-8 pumping out 550hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. 0-60mph performance took a mere 3.4 seconds while quarter mile times clocked in at 11.5 seconds with a trap speed of 128.7mph. Truly exceptional numbers for a car in 2006.
